Virginia Beach, VA

We love working on historic homes. Several years ago we had the privilege of working on this beautiful wood frame, one-and-a-half-story house that has portions that were built as early as 1699.

“Serving as a working farm into the 1950s, it is one of the few examples of colonial architecture to be found in Virginia Beach. Interior details include an original circa 1700 door, which served as the front door to the house prior to the 1820s addition, as well as original heart-pine flooring in some sections. Outbuildings include a springhouse or dairy, a smokehouse, and a garage which likely served as a stable...” - Clio.com

Scope of our work:

  • Reconfigure, relocate, & renovate kitchen

  • Create a master bath & closet area

  • Design and build new back entry including bay extension

We milled all exterior mold, trim, and siding to match the original profiles exactly.

It was really cool opening up walls and finding original full tree trunks used for timbers within the walls with some bark still remaining on the wood.

The homeowner had a number of remodeling projects done on the property and they told us that working with Benson Homes was the most positive experience they’d had. He appreciated how aware of his family, home, where we parked, etc we were.

Our philosophy is that we’re guests in your home (whether inside or outside) — your home, your property, and you should be treated with courtesy and respect.

The clients were wonderful to work with and were very sensitive to the historic integrity of the home and had great intuitive ideas for how they’d like to remodel the structure.
